Service Centre

The Service Centre is located in Lecce, in the Puglia Region of Italy, and is hosted by the University of Salento.

The Service Centre is part of the LifeWatch ERIC Common Facilities, and is responsible for the provision of tools and services to user communities, the active involvement of the European scientific community, and general communication activities.

Activities

The Service Centre provides an interface with the Biodiversity Scientific Community, identifying the needs of multiple user groups from different domains and areas of interest, and coordinates the development and operation of related services.

In addition, it assists in deploying the services provided by the LifeWatch ERIC Research Infrastructure, including those enabling the discovery, visualisation, and download of data and applications for the analysis, presentation and modelling of scientific topics.

It therefore identifies new data resources and incorporates vocabularies, semantics and services in order to aggregate a broad range of data. It also optimises access to and use of its facilities as a whole, and offers web-based tools to facilitate Social Networking and Social Learning (including e-Learning).

Lastly, since the Service Centre is responsible for communication activities, it promotes awareness of LifeWatch ERIC among potential users and the general public, and enhances the visibility of its scientific outcomes by publicising and disseminating them.
