Taxonomist Appreciation Day

Taxonomy is that branch of biology in charge of classification, naming and description of existing organisms. It is estimated a total number of species, in the range of 8 million to 1 trillion, with just 1.6 million named so far.

The taxonomic process is slow, as often, only experts in a field can name the species. This can take years, as they will study the combinations of the form, shape, structure of organisms (called morphology), together with behavioral, genetic and biochemical aspects.
