Bulgaria joined LifeWatch ERIC in 2022.

LifeWatch Bulgaria is one of the eight Distributed Centres making up LifeWatch ERIC, the e-Science European Infrastructure Consortium which provides data resources, web services and Vital Research Environments (VREs) to biodiversity and ecosystem researchers.

The Agricultural University-Plovdiv is the official national scientific organisation that represents Bulgaria within LifeWatch ERIC.

What We Do

Research (lab and field testing and assessment)

Exploring key agro-ecological factors for growth in the soil-plant-atmosphere system, in typical organic holdings and for the spread and growth of priority plants.

Open-source collaboration

Implementing the 'multi-actor approach', engaging key stakeholders and experts for open-source collaboration. Data collection from diverse agri-ecosystems and effective transfer of biodiversity knowledge to farming, research, policy and society.

Agricultural practices impact

Biodiversity and ecosystem functioning as a component of a sustainable and favourable living environment, analysis and assessment of:
- soil, water, air and behaviour of pollutants in these resources;
- carbon sequestration in grasslands.

IICT-BAN

Applying elements of artificial intelligence in established systems in order to increase their efficiency.

Advanced agrobiodiversity monitoring

Testing sustainable practical models for the evaluation of agrobiodiversity in sustainable (including organic) farming.

Plant Health Infrastructure

Combining diagnostic laboratory and research resources for diagnostics, prognoses and technologies related to research into plant health and technological solutions for safe plant products.

Environmental pressures

Analysing land use changes and biodiversity loss of ecosystem services in agriculture and natural and semi-natural landscapes.
